Big Sentences from 2022

Big sentences are learnings I don’t want to forget. They are the off-the-cuff thoughts I have when meditating on the big things I learned over the past year.

Meta Insights

  • My 4 virtues: authenticity, connection, growth, & exploration.
  • The coolest people are those that define winning on their own terms and actualize it.
  • My life goal is to build the coolest story of all time.
  • Clear mind > smart mind.
  • I won the lottery 6 times over (time of birth, American, white, rich, man, & supportive family).
  • Obsession is the biggest indicator for future success.
  • The only person who tells you how you can/cannot is your mind. You are the person who puts constraints on yourself. Those constraints are formed by society. Each culture has a different set of constraints. Going to other cultures shows you other ways you your hidden constraints. Like dust on a mirror.
  • Have a bias for action. Action → data → insights → better action.
  • The point of life is not to figure out the meaning of life. It is about having an open soul & feeling alive as much as possible.
  • I live for “pinch me” moments. Those usually came while in beautiful nature, with awesome strangers, seeing mastery, or doing a truly authentic thing in a foreign country.
  • Be the person that makes the people around you feel special.
  • Success is dreaming of becoming a certain type of person and then becoming it. Nothing to do with money.
  • I am very proud to be an American.
  • I’d like to be a more giving person with my time, effort, & thought.
  • I want to continue to dive into & uncover my spiritual self.
  • AI will change the way humans live.
  • I love learning about how things came to be the way that they are.
  • There is no better gift than being completely present.
  • I love building communities. Connecting with people is my superpower. My favorite form of socializing is getting lost in a great conversation.

Travel Insights

  • I’d like to be a digital nomad throughout my 20s (or have mini-retirements)
  • You can learn a lot from other cultures. But, you have to be there to learn it.
  • The best travel is having authentic experiences with local people. F*ck touristy stuff.
  • You don’t need much money to see beautiful places & have great experiences.

Work Insights

  • I’d like to be a lifelong creative in many different forms.
  • Work like a lion in the short and long term. Short term = sprinting for 3 hours a day and resting (or sprinting for 5 days and resting 3). Long term = working for 3 years and then taking a 6-18 month time to travel and live in hostels.
  • Following your genuine intellectual curiosity is a better foundation for a career than following what is making money right now.
  • Spend time building skills (or companies) that will make you substantial money in the long term.

Habit Insights

  • Consistent reflection might become the most important habit I’ll ever do in my life.
  • I want to have creative, outdoor, and active hobbies throughout my life.
  • It’s so much easier to figure out how your brain works and adjust your habits & expectations, rather than try to force your brain to “act differently this time”
  • Stay consistent by having a minimum viable habit - something I can complete even on my worst days.
  • Reading a biography is like downloading someone’s life philosophy. So, read biographies.
